Rep. Ron Paul Asks Congress: “What If…?”

Uploaded By: mattgeb84 | March 2, 2009

Transcript: Febeuary 13, 2009

Ron Paul: “Madam Speaker, I have a few questions for my colleagues.

What if our foreign policy of the past century is deeply flawed and has not served our national security interest?

What if we wake up one day and realize that the terrorist threat is the predictable consequence of our meddling in the affairs of others, and has nothing to do with us being free and prosperous?

What if propping up repressive regimes in the Middle East endangers both the United States and Israel?

What if occupying countries like Iraq and Afghanistan and bombing Pakistan is directly related to the hatred directed toward us?

What if someday it dawns on us that losing over 5,000 American military personnel in the Middle East since 9/11 is not a fair tradeoff with the loss of nearly 3,000 American citizens no matter how many Iraqi, Pakistanian, Afghan people are killed or displaced?

What if we finally decide that torture, even if called “enhanced interrogation technique”, is self-destructive and produces no useful information and that contracting it out to a third world nation is just as evil?

What if it is finally realized that war and military spending is always destructive to the economy?

What if all war-time spending is paid for through the deceitful and evil process of inflating and borrowing?

What if we finally see that war-time conditions always undermine personal liberty?

What if Conservatives who preach small government wake up and realize that our interventionist foreign policy provides the greatest incentive to expand the government?

What if Conservatives understood once again that their only logical position is to reject military intervention and managing an empire throughout the world?

What if the American people woke up and understood that the official reasons for going to war are almost always based on lies and promoted by war propaganda in order to serve special interests?

What if we as a nation came to realize that the quest for empire eventually destroys all great nations?

What if Obama has no intention of leaving Iraq?

What if a military draft is being planned for for the wars that would spread if our foreign policy is not changed?

What if the American people learned the truth, that our foreign policy has nothing to do with national security, that it never changes from one administration to the next?

What if war in preparation for war is a racket serving the special interests?

What if President Obama is completely wrong about Afghanistan and it turns out worse than Iraq and Vietnam put together?

What if Christianity actually teaches peace and not preventive wars of aggression?

What if diplomacy is found to be superior to bombs and bribes in protecting America?

What happens if my concerns are completely unfounded? Nothing.

But what happens if my concerns are justified and ignored? Nothing good. And I yield back the balance of my time.”

PASS ID ACT S. 1261 National ID

By: Liberty-Pac | November 21, 2009

The Real ID and; Pass ID Acts are the 2nd, 3rd and 4th attempts since 1997 the United States Congress has, through legislation attempted to create a national identification system. Back in 1997 a majority of Republicans and Democrats opposed the national ID scheme, due to privacy and Bill of Rights infringements the ID could eventually pose. The ID scheme was finally defeated in 1999. Since the published 911 commission report both parties republicans and democrats are now hell bent on the creation of this national ID scheme.

The threat of terrorism and illegal immigration is the new rally cry for this current federal power grab. The Real ID and Pass ID Acts both transform State BMV's into agents of the Federal Govt. If we the people allow the Federal Government to set the standards for State citizen identification, we will be opening the back door to any current or future standards the Dept. of Homeland Security may apply to these ID schemes at their connivance. RFID embedded chips, Retina and, Finger Print scans to name a few of the top ID technologies. The USA Patriot ACT already mandates an entry-exit biometric system at ports of entry, and page. 388 of the 911 commission report states " Americans should not be exempt from carrying biometric passports at ports of entry"

I understand many citizens choose not to become involved in the decision making process. After all we elect representatives to make the decisions for us. However we should consider, while our representatives are making these decisions, it is the lobbyists who fill the politician's purse in return for contracts and special favors. One only need to look at the premier ID manufacturer
L-1 Identity Solutions

L-1 manufactures State drivers license, DOD CAC cards and US. Pass Ports. Is this the road we desire to travel down? For myself this is a 4th and 10th Amendment issue. If you are interested in stopping the Real ID and Pass ID Act please join me in this historic battle and sign the petition to put an end to this federal ID scheme.

Audit the Fed Bill HR 1207 Hearing 24 Sep 2009

By: John Tate | September 24, 2009

“Dear Friend of Liberty, This Friday, the House Financial Services Committee will meet at 9 am eastern to hold a hearing on Congressman Paul's Audit the Fed bill, HR 1207.

We have come a long way in this historic effort, but your action is needed now more than ever.Click here to find the names of the representatives on the Financial Services Committee and to get their contact information.
House Committee Financial Services
Audit The Fed.com

Even if they do not represent your district, be sure to call as many of them as you can anyway, as their work on the Committee greatly impacts every one of us. Urge them to pass the Audit the Fed bill to the floor on its own merits and not as part of an overall package that would strengthen the Federal Reserve and further damage our economy. Transparency in our monetary system is too important to be smothered in yet another Washington regulatory bill.

If your representative is not on the Committee, please contact him as well and tell him you want to know what the Fed has done with your money. Demand a standalone vote on Audit the Fed and that he cosponsor HR 1207 if he has not yet done so.

The hearing will be streamed live on the Committee's website.
Live Stream Committee Website
This hearing would not have taken place if not for all of your hard work in calling, writing, faxing, and petitioning Congress to support HR 1207 and S 604, its Senate companion.

It's incredible to see all the support we have amassed in this historic effort, but if we want to achieve a complete victory, we must now push harder than ever and turn the heat up! Your call could have a critical impact on your representative's decision. Contact them immediately!”

In Liberty,
John Tate

Washington Post Offers To Sell Access To Editorial Staff For $25,000 -250,000$

By: Mike Allen | Politico | July 2, 2009

“For $25,000 to $250,000, The Washington Post has offered lobbyists and association executives off-the-record, nonconfrontational access to "those powerful few": Obama administration officials, members of Congress, and - at first - even the paper’s own reporters and editors.

The astonishing offer was detailed in a flier circulated Wednesday to a health care lobbyist, who provided it to a reporter because the lobbyist said he felt it was a conflict for the paper to charge for access to, as the flier says, its “health care reporting and editorial staff."

With the newsroom in an uproar after POLITICO reported the solicitation, Executive Editor Marcus Brauchli said in a staffwide e-mail that the newsroom would not participate in the first of the planned events - a dinner scheduled July 21 at the home of Publisher and Chief Executive Officer Katharine Weymouth.

The offer - which essentially turns a news organization into a facilitator for private lobbyist-official encounters - was a new sign of the lengths to which news organizations will go to find revenue at a time when most newspapers are struggling for survival.

And it's a turn of the times that a lobbyist is scolding The Washington Post for its ethical practices. "Underwriting Opportunity: An evening with the right people can alter the debate," says the one-page flier. "Underwrite and participate in this intimate and exclusive Washington Post Salon, an off-the-record dinner and discussion at the home of CEO and Publisher Katharine Weymouth. ... Bring your organization’s CEO or executive director literally to the table. Interact with key Obama administration and congressional leaders."

In response to requests for comment, The Post issued a statement that stopped short of canceling the event. Kris Coratti, communications director of Washington Post Media, a division of The Washington Post Company, said: "The flier circulated this morning came out of a business division for conferences and events, and the newsroom was unaware of such communication. It went out before it was properly vetted, and this draft does not represent what the company’s vision for these dinners are, which is meant to be an independent, policy-oriented event for newsmakers.

"As written, the newsroom could not participate in an event like this. We do believe there is an opportunity to have a conferences and events business, and that The Post should be leading these conversations in Washington, big or small, while maintaining journalistic integrity. The newsroom will participate where appropriate."

Brauchli, the executive editor, was named on the flier as one of the "Hosts and Discussion Leaders." In an e-mail to the newsroom on Thursday morning labeled "Newsroom Independence," Brauchli wrote: "Colleagues, A flyer was distributed this week offering an 'underwriting opportunity' for a dinner on health-care reform, in which the news department had been asked to participate. The language in the flyer and the description of the event preclude our participation.

"We will not participate in events where promises are made that in exchange for money The Post will offer access to newsroom personnel or will refrain from confrontational questioning. Our independence from advertisers or sponsors is inviolable. There is a long tradition of news organizations hosting conferences and events, and we believe The Post, including the newsroom, can do these things in ways that are consistent with our values."

The flier says: “Spirited? Yes. Confrontational? No. The relaxed setting in the home of Katharine Weymouth assures it. What is guaranteed is a collegial evening, with Obama administration officials, Congress members, business leaders, advocacy leaders and other select minds typicaly on the guest list of 20 or less.

“Offered at $25,000 per sponsor, per Salon. Maximum of two sponsors per Salon. Underwriters’ CEO or Executive Director participates in the discussion. Underwriters appreciatively acknowledged in printed invitations and at the dinner. Annual series sponsorship of 11 Salons offered at $250,000 … Hosts and Discussion Leaders ... Health-care reporting and editorial staff members of The Washington Post ... An exclusive opportunity to participate in the health-care reform debate among the select few who will actually get it done. ... A Washington Post Salon ... July 21, 2009 6:30 p.m. ..."

"Washington Post Salons are extensions of The Washington Post brand of journalistic inquiry into the issues, a unique opportunity for stakeholders to hear and be heard," the flier says. "At the core is a critical topic of our day. Dinner and a volley of ideas unfold in an evening of intelligent, news-driven and off-the-record conversation. ... By bringing together those powerful few in business and policy-making who are forwarding, legislating and reporting on the issues, Washington Post Salons give life to the debate. Be at this nexus of business and policy with your underwriting of Washington Post Salons."

The first "Salon" is titled "Health-Care Reform: Better or Worse for Americans? The reform and funding debate.”

Media & Public Relations

Personally I take it one step further than Chomsky. I believe ✰All✰ for profit networks CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, FOX ETC.... (to a degree) slant their version of the story or truth, depending on the agenda being peddled. I've been un plugged from the MSM or main stream media since 1997 and have no desire to tune in again.

(Quote) from Media Education Foundation “If you think U.S. news has a liberal bias, this assumption-shattering film from Noam Chomsky, Edward Herman, and Justin Lewis will have you thinking again. Making the common-sense case that mainstream news media are more committed to their bottom-line interests as large corporations than to left-wing advocacy, they dissect how news content gets shaped within a narrow, and ultimately conservative, institutional frame that marginalizes the progressive perspectives of a broad cross-section of the American public. The film, made before the rise of Fox News, has become only more relevant with time.”

"If you want to understand the way a system works, you look at its institutional structure. How it is organized, how it is controlled, how it is funded."
- Noam Chomsky

"The Mainstream media really represent elite interests, and what the propaganda model tries to do is stipulate a set of institutional variables, reflecting this elite power, that very powerfully influence the media."
- Edward Herman

The Controlled Opposition

By: Liberty-Pac | August 23, 2009

April 15th, 2009 - Tax Day protest. Example of the LEFT vs. RIGHT Media further dividing Americans into the false Left/Right paradigm. The modern day Tea Parties started in *2007* as a Non-Partisan activist movement of Libertarians, Independents , Republicans , Democrats and Constitutionalists. As the movement reached critical mass in 2009 the right wing media and the Neo-Conn establishment attempted to hijack the movement and change the 2007 message. They succeeded to some degree. The video below captures some of the drama. Video By:Foundingbloggers.com | April 22 2009

“Further dividing Americans into the false left/right paradigm, CNN, correspondent Susan Roesgen and Janine Garofalo (why is this woman even on tv?) bash tea parties nationwide while "conservative" FOX News capitalizes on the whole thing.”

“Congressman and former presidential nominee Ron Paul joined Montel to discuss the Tea Party movement, the Obama administration, and the role of government in the United States.”
